The 90-second video from Greenpeace International aims to set the tone as the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations (INC3) resume today at the United Nations Environment Programme headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

  • Guerilla Art Calls Out Toxic Plastic, Demands President Biden’s Support for a Strong Global Plastics Treaty

    Today, Greenpeace USA took over the streets of Washington, D.C., with a guerilla advertising campaign highlighting the harmful effects of plastic toxicity on human health. The campaign includes a satirical image of President Biden along with constituents impacted by toxic plastic.  The creative initiative aims to raise awareness and urge the Biden Administration to take action by supporting a strong Global Plastics Treaty. This treaty should reduce plastic production, protect human health, safeguard biodiversity, and provide a just transition for workers and frontline communities. The next round of negotiations for the Global Plastics Treaty will begin on November 12, 2023.

  • Critical deep sea mining meeting resumes as coalition of governments push for halt

    The International Seabed Authority (ISA) will bring governments together in Kingston to discuss whether to allow deep sea mining to go ahead, in a meeting starting today. Because of a failure to reach an agreement on mining regulations in previous meetings, starting on 9 July any company can present a plan to mine the seabed without those regulations in place. A coalition of governments pushed back and for the first time in history requested that the ISA negotiate a proposal for a long term suspension on this dangerous activity.

    There is no evidence whatsoever linking offshore wind to whale deaths. The manufactured hysteria is the result of fake news promoted by politicians, big oil, and their cronies to save the oil and gas industry, which is fueling the climate crisis, destroying biodiversity, harming people's health, and hastening social injustice. We must not allow baseless accusations to stall the transition to green, renewable energy or address the true threats to whale populations.

  • Ahead of TIP Report, Labor Rights Activists Urge U.S. to Call for Thailand and Taiwan to Protect Migrant Workers and End Forced Labor in Seafood Industry

    Greenpeace USA, Global Labor Justice - International Labor Rights Forum (GLJ-ILRF), and allies in the Seafood Working Group (SWG) today announced their findings of labor rights violations, forced labor, and human trafficking of migrant workers in Thailand and Taiwan and called on the U.S. Department of State to downgrade both countries in its 2023 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report in order to hold the governments accountable for these abuses.
