Thirteen celebrated activists, athletes and actors from around the world have appeared in a video calling to end the age of plastic. The 90-second video from Greenpeace International aims to set the tone as the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations (INC3) resume today at the United Nations Environment Programme headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.
Today, Greenpeace USA took over the streets of Washington, D.C., with a guerilla advertising campaign highlighting the harmful effects of plastic toxicity on human health. The campaign includes a satirical image of President Biden along with constituents impacted by toxic plastic.
The creative initiative aims to raise awareness and urge the Biden Administration to take action by supporting a strong Global Plastics Treaty. This treaty should reduce plastic production, protect human health, safeguard biodiversity, and provide a just transition for workers and frontline communities. The next round of negotiations for the Global Plastics Treaty will begin on November 12, 2023.

The state of California has sued ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, BP, ConocoPhillips and the American Petroleum Institute for misinformation about climate change.
The International Seabed Authority (ISA) will bring governments together in Kingston to discuss whether to allow deep sea mining to go ahead, in a meeting starting today. Because of a failure to reach an agreement on mining regulations in previous meetings, starting on 9 July any company can present a plan to mine the seabed without those regulations in place. A coalition of governments pushed back and for the first time in history requested that the ISA negotiate a proposal for a long term suspension on this dangerous activity.
There is no evidence whatsoever linking offshore wind to whale deaths. The manufactured hysteria is the result of fake news promoted by politicians, big oil, and their cronies to save the oil and gas industry, which is fueling the climate crisis, destroying biodiversity, harming people's health, and hastening social injustice. We must not allow baseless accusations to stall the transition to green, renewable energy or address the true threats to whale populations.
