Black holes in deep ocean space

The current piecemeal approach and voluntary measures for the conservation of high seas biodiversity are simply insufficient to ensure that states take action to effectively protect the unknown treasures of the open ocean. In addition to the short-term measures identified below, it is necessary to revise the current oceans governance system in order to achieve the conservation objectives of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in the medium to long-term.
