The six exporting plywood and veneer companies of the Amazonas state – Amaplac, Carolina, Cifec, Compensa, CIM and Gethal – are or have been involved with illegal logging in the past two and a half years. In 1998, they were responsible for 86,7% of the total exports of the Manaus and Itacoatiara ports, within the Amazonas state.
