Washington, DC May 10, 2016 – In response to the news that Royal Dutch Shell has made the decision to relinquish all but one of its federal offshore leases in Alaska’s Chukchi Sea, Vicky Wyatt, Greenpeace Campaigner said:

“Shell giving up most of its leases in the Chukchi Sea is great news for the Arctic and for the people around the world who have demanded a halt to new offshore drilling. Arctic oil drilling is exactly the type of long-term, dirty fossil fuels project that can’t happen if we want to stop the worst effects of climate change. President Obama must seize this opportunity and place the entire Arctic and U.S. outer continental shelf off limits to the fossil fuel industry for good.”
