Senator Warren Outlines Bold Public Lands Policy – Greenpeace Response

April 15, 2019

Washington, DC — In response to a new proposal from Senator Elizabeth Warren to sign an executive order banning fossil fuel extraction on public lands during her first day in office as president, Greenpeace USA Climate Director Janet Redman issued the following statement:

“This is a big deal, and a clear sign that Elizabeth Warren understands the severity of the climate crisis. By becoming the first presidential candidate to declare her support for a Day One executive order banning fossil fuel extraction on public lands, she’s showing a clear willingness to lead in taking on the fossil fuel industry, and making climate action a top priority in office. Senator Warren understands that the climate crisis can’t be solved by investments in renewable energy alone, and is willing to confront the powerful fossil fuel interests that stand in the way of solutions. We expect every single candidate who wants to be taken seriously as a climate leader to endorse her proposal, and commit to signing a similar executive order on their first day in office.”
