Washington, DC- In response to President elect Donald Trump’s pick of former Texas governor Rick Perry as leading the Department of Energy, Greenpeace USA Spokesperson Cassady Craighill said,

“It’s difficult to decide what’s more disturbing about Rick Perry leading the Department of Energy–the fact that he wants to abolish it, or that his last gig was losing to Vanilla Ice on Dancing With the Stars. As governor of Texas, Perry allowed oil, gas and chemical companies on ‘Refinery Row’ to emit cancer-causing pollutants, which nearby residents and communities would breathe every day. Perry is just the latest climate-denying addition to Trump’s cabinet of billionaires, a swamp filled with corporate conflicts of interest. Donald Trump has so far made a mockery of the US Presidency, and he hasn’t even been sworn in yet. He is determined to make America a country that does not believe in science and is stuck in the past while the rest of the world moves forward.”
