Californians shouldn't foot the bill for Big Oil

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (July 1, 2024)–In response to the news that CalGEM will chose not to enforce Assembly Bill 1167, Greenpeace USA Senior Climate Campaigner, Amy Moas said: “If CalGEM were truly interested in living up to their own words to “prevent harm to life, health, property, and natural resources, protect public health, and promote the state’s climate goals,” then it is a no-brainer to enforce Assembly Bill 1167. Allowing ownership of oil wells to change hands without ensuring there is enough money to plug and remediate them is short sighted and irresponsible. Californians should never be on the hook for paying Big Oil’s bills.”
