If put into practice, this would address the problems on the company's own plantations and set new standards for the whole industry.
A few weeks ago, HSBC took a big step forward for forest protection by pledging to end funding for destructive palm oil companies in Indonesia. But HSBC is not the only bank lending money to palm oil companies pushing further into the forest — and the others now have a lot of catching up to do.
