In reaction to Mongabay Editor Philip Jacobson arrested in Indonesia, Kiki Taufik, Global Head of Greenpeace Southeast Asia’s Indonesian forests campaign, said:

The imprisonment of Mongabay’s editor Philip Jacobson and threat of deportation is yet another sign that the Indonesia government is attempting to silence and intimidate individuals and organisations that are shining a light on the pressing environmental issues in the country.

Transparency has become a key battleground in the fight to save Indonesia’s forests and to expose human rights abuses. But rather than welcoming scrutiny plurality of voices, the government increasingly appears to be trying to prevent it.

We urge for his immediate release from city detention and a prompt resolution to this matter.
