Plastic pollution has become an overwhelming crisis across South Asia. But we have a chance to change this. The Global Plastics Treaty is a historic opportunity to tackle this crisis head-on. As negotiations move forward, we must push for a strong, legally-binding agreement that addresses plastic’s entire lifecycle — from production and use to disposal and pollution.
We need a treaty that:
- Reduces plastic production and use, especially harmful single-use plastics.
- Holds corporations accountable for their role in plastic pollution.
- Invests in refill and reuse systems to replace disposable packaging.
- Ensures transparency in plastic production and waste management.
This is our moment to demand real action. South Asia cannot wait any longer for cleaner air, safer water, and healthier communities. By supporting an ambitious Global Plastics Treaty, we can create lasting change and protect our future.
