Greenpeace activists who, in the morning, started a protest in the Turów lignite open cast mine decided to spend the night on the huge excavator. Activists are continuing their protest  to draw attention to how PGE and the Ministry of State Assets, which oversees PGE, have persistently ignored the need for climate action and energy transition.  Four activists decided to end the protest today.

–  We demand that the key decision to exit coal by 2030 is taken. President of the PGE Wojciech Dąbrowski and minister Jacek Sasin are putting in danger people’s safety and the climate by ignoring the need to phase out coal. – said Wioletta Smul, activist taking part in the peaceful protest, who will spend the night on the excavator.

Greenpeace is calling on PGE and the Polish government to take urgent and decisive steps towards the clean energy transition and phasing out of coal by 2030 the latest. This is a necessary step not only to combat the climate crisis but also to secure the just transition for the local coal communities. will spend the night on the excavator.

Activists taking part in the protest climbed a huge excavator and placed a banner at a height of over 40 meters with the slogan “Climate crisis? F*ck it!”and logos of PGE and the Ministry of State Assets. In this way, they referred to awards gala organised by the  Institute of Art and Development for the implementation of the “F*ck it!” climate strategy. In the category personality of the year implementing strategy “F*ck it!”the winner was Minister of State Assets – Jacek Sasin. Award for company of the year went to PGE.
