Dangjin Citizens, united against fossil fuel, participate in the global “Breakfree” movement.
Dangjin city already has the world’s largest operating coal plants now (10 units 6,040mw). Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and SK Gas plan to build the 1,160mw of new additional coal plants. Over 40% of Dangjin citizens oppose new coal plants according to the survey Greenpeace East Asia Seoul recently conducted. Dangjin local groups are preparing people’s referendum to stop this. Dangjin Citizens join the “Breakfree” to stop the climate change.
The Breakfree march is co-organized by Dangjin Citizens’ Commission Against Power Cable & Coal-Fired Power Plant, Korean Federation for Environmental Movement, Greenpeace, GEYK, and 350.org.
