Job Title: Operations and Security Coordinator

OVERALL PURPOSE

The position comprises logistics, volunteers’ coordination, and security coordination under the supervision of the Operations & Security Manager (OSM). The ideal candidate is a people person. This role will also support the development and delivery of the security training program for all staff while increasingly fostering the growth of a security culture within Greenpeace MENA.

Scope This is a regional role, covering the Middle East and North Africa. It is executed in close cooperation with the Operations and Security Manager.

This role will involve working with teams to optimize processes, develop and coordinate the regional volunteer network, and improve volunteer journeys for deeper and more impactful offline engagement,  amplifying the impact of people on delivering Campaign goals

One of the focuses of this role is to strengthen Greenpeace MENA Security Systems and establish a security culture that allows our Programme to take bolder steps to increase the impact of our projects while maintaining a high level of safety for the organization and our people. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

OPERATIONS 

Volunteer Mobilization and Coordination 

  • Design a strategy to grow the volunteer network in the region 
  • Develop  annual plan for volunteers and local groups;
  • Ensure that  proper and updated policies are in place and are implemented by relevant parties;
  • Co-design, organize and manage logistics for creative and engaging activities supporting our campaigns and projects
  • Implement a plan for volunteer recruitment as well as a retention plan, including identifying potential volunteers and volunteer leaders.
  • Manage risk through knowledge of and compliance with laws and regulations regarding volunteering. Responsible for all aspects of health and safety and duty of care of all personnel involved or implicated in volunteer activities throughout the preparation and during the execution; 
  • Manage volunteer coordination systems, including administration, communication, database management, resource development, feedback, and budgets
  • Ensure that all aspects of ED&I are facilitated in the volunteer programme and network
  • Responsible for designing and implementing volunteer training programs, organizing logistics and content for these trainings aligned with best practice;
  • Responsible for communication and relationship development between office and volunteers; 
  • Manage and edit regular volunteer communications, including a newsletter, email updates, and campaign leaflets and information;
  • Ensure that all volunteers taking part in Greenpeace operations are in line with the history, core values, code of conduct, and campaigns, maximize their capacity and environmental knowledge, thus enhancing involvement and feeling of belonging;
  • Lead the organization in identifying areas where volunteers are needed and can actively contribute

SECURITY

Organizational Security Culture

  • Work together with the Operations and Security Manager to strengthen the security culture across GP MENA through regular staff updates, familiarization, training, and integration to create mindsets and awareness of security;
  • Policy and protocol development as related to safety, security, risk management, and Duty of Care, including Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Closely collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure security as an enabler and integration into organizational processes and the GP MENA project model, from P&C, finance, and facilities to programmes.
  • Support the OSM in ensuring physical security management for Greenpeace MENA operations, including all campaign-related field work, office/warehouse environments, and staff/volunteers working in higher-risk areas;
  • Support Security Systems, Information flow, and Coordination in the office

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

Education & Knowledge

  • A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in environmental studies, social sciences, or other related disciplines

Experience & Skills

  • 2 to 3 years of relevant, practical experience working in Volunteer coordination with social movements, preferably within the I/NGO sector, is a must
  • A passion and commitment to Greenpeace’s mission and values is a plus
  • Able to demonstrate substantial experience in volunteer management, logistics, and security. Preferably with experience in large team management in a campaigning organization;
  • Experienced in working with multicultural teams and senior staff across countries digitally;
  • Event coordination skills
  • Volunteer coordination skills, especially recruitment
  • Extensive knowledge and working experience from the MENA region;
  • Field experience and security management in high-risk environments are desired;
  • Proven experience in project and budget management;
  • Negotiation, communication, and presentation & public speaking skills;
  • Excellent people and social skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including influencing, negotiation, coaching, and ability to work with team members of diverse backgrounds and cultures;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and deliver effective organizational outcomes related to all aspects of security and risk management;
  • Valid driving license
  • The ability to travel domestically, regionally, and internationally. Able to work outside of ordinary working hours when required too

Personal competencies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Arabic & English
  • Understanding of the NGO sector and relevant grassroots movements
