In reaction to the inauguration of one of the world’s largest wind farm in Gebel el-Zeit, Egypt, Julien Jreissati Arab World Campaigner at Greenpeace Mediterranean declared: “It is with landmark projects such as the Gebel el-Zeit wind farm that Egypt will achieve its ambitious target of 42% electricity generation from renewable energy by 2025”. The wind farm extends over 100 square kilometers and includes 290 wind turbines with an overall capacity of 580 megawatts.

Jreissati added “The Egyptian government should solely focus its power production investment on renewable projects which will provide truly sustainable energy security”. “From an economic, employment, health and environment perspective choosing renewable energy over dirty fossil fuels like coal should be a no brainer” concluded Jreissati
