The warnings from the World Health Organization

Approximately 99% of the Earth’s population breathes air that exceeds the organization’s permitted air quality limits, posing a health risk. The Middle East and North Africa regions are not safe from this threat, which claims thousands of lives annually.

Breathing clean air is a basic human right and a requirement for the existence of healthy communities. But, how can we strive to achieve this goal without knowing the air pollution levels in different places within our region?

Whether we live in rural areas or large cities, our children’s rights to live in a healthy environment and breathe clean air are violated daily.

The situation is worse for those living near large industrial factories, where they face greater health risks. They are burdened with expensive medical bills and may even face the loss of their land ownership and forced displacement.

AIR POLLUTION CAUSES

More than 270,000 fatalities yearly in the MENA region.

Respiratory illnesses such as lung function deterioration and the onset of asthma & heart diseases.

Higher susceptibility to pneumonia and asthma for children residing in areas with high pollution levels.

A yearly loss of 2% of the GDP for the region.

Particularly concerning is the lack of basic information

Particularly concerning is the lack of basic information to confront this crisis effectively. Without data and air quality monitoring mechanisms, our communities will remain unable to assess and improve air quality accurately.

Without your support, our demands for clean air won’t be possible.
