وارسو 18, نوفمبر 2013 – قام نشطاء السلام الأخضر من أكثر من 20 دولة بالتظاهر على سطح وزارة الاقتصاد البولندية ضد قمة الفحم الدولية، والتي تقام برعاية نائب رئيس الوزراء البولندي، وتجري حالياً بجوار مفاوضات الأمم المتحدة للتغير المناخي في وارسو. حمل النشطاء راية ضخمة كتب عليها “من يحكم العالم؟ صناعة الفحم أم الناس؟” وكانت محاطة بأعلام دول أخرى .
يقول مارتن كايسر مدير وفد السلام الأخضر لقمة COP19:
” إن استضافة حدث لصناعة الفحم خلال انعقاد مؤتمر للمناخ هو صفعة على وجه كل الناس الذين يعانون من الآثار الكارثية للتغير المناخي. يجب إيقاف الاستثمارات الجديدةفي الوقود الأحفوري كالفحم والنفط، وتحويل هذه الاستثمارات إلى الطاقة المتجددة.
كونهم أكبر المنتجين والمستخدمين للوفود الأحفوري، على الدول الغنية التزامات أخلاقي للمساعدة على تحقيق ذلك، فدولة كالفلبين تعاني مما يتم حرقه في أماكن مثل بولندا. هنا في COP19 من الضروري جداً أن نخطط لمساعدة أولئك الذين أصبحوا ضحايا من إدماننا للوقود الأحفوري. “
راية أخرى كتب عليها “من يحكم بولندا؟ .. صناعة الفحم أم الناس؟” إشارةً لاستفتاء تم نشره يوم 12 نوفمبر من خلال مركز أبحاث الرأي العام في بولندا [1]، يظهر أن 89٪ من المواطنين البولنديين يفضلون زيادة إنتاج الطاقة المتجددة في بولندا، بينما حكومتهم تتجاهلهم ! [2]
يقول ماسيج موسكات مدير السلام الأخضر في بولندا:
” السياسيون يتم انتخابهم لتحقيق إرادة الناس، وليس لتحقيق منافع اقتصادية لصناعة الفحم القديمة غير النظيفة. يجب على رئيس الوزراء توسك أن يستمع للناس ويبادر بتحول إلى الطاقة المتجددة.
حالياً يجتمع ممثلو 194 دولة في وارسو من أجل إيجاد طرق لمعالجة التغير المناخي. أشار التقرير الأخير للجنة الدولية للتغيرات المناخية IPCC لما يجب عمله بوضوح: يجب ترك أغلب الوقود الأحفوري في مكانه في الأرض والانبعاثات الكربونية يجب أن يتم إلغاؤها تدريجياً بحلول منتصف هذا القرن. طغى على الأسبوع الأول من المفاوضات المناخية انهيار طموحات اليابان واستراليا بشأن التخفيضات. يتم استضافة قمة الفحم في الوقت الذي يكافح فيه حماة المناخ في عدة دول بشجاعة ضد الاستثمارات الجديدة في المحطات التي تعمل بالفحم، والتنقيب عن البترول وأنابيب البترول، بينما الحكومات تفشل في مواجهة صناعة الفحم.
يختم كايسر حديثه قائلاً: “من المهين أن ترحب الحكومة البولندية برؤساء صناعة الفحم القاتلة للمناخ. في هذه الأثناء يعاني 30 من حماة المناخ في سجن روسي بارد عقاباً على شجاعتهم وتظاهرهم السلمي لحماية القطب الشمالي”.
وفي سياق متصل قالت صفاء الجيوسي -مسؤولة المناخ والطاقة بالسلام الأخضر في الدول العربية- أن على الدول اتخاذ إجراءات الآن للحد من ظاهرة التغير المناخي، وعلى الدول العربية أن تعمل كمجموعة واحدة للضغط والحث على اتخاذ اجراءات دولية لازمة تحمي مستقبلنا ومستقبل أبنائنا ويجب أن يتم العمل على اتفاقية لعام 2015 منذ الآن.
Greenpeace activists protest World Coal Summit hosted alongside UN Climate Talks
Warsaw, 11 November 2013 – Greenpeace activists from over 20 countries today protested on the roof of the Ministry of Economics against the World Coal Summit, hosted by the Polish Deputy Prime Minister and running concurrently with the UN climate negotiations in Warsaw. The activists hung a large banner which read, “Who rules the World? Fossil industries or the people?” It was surrounded by flags from the US, Germany, Australia and many other countries.
Martin Kaiser, Head of the COP19 Delegation for Greenpeace International said:
“Hosting a PR event for the coal industry during a climate conference is a slap in the face to all the people suffering from the catastrophic impacts of climate change. New investments in fossil fuels, like coal and oil, need to be stopped and transferred into renewable energy.”
“As the major producers and users of fossil fuels, rich countries have a moral obligation to help those that, like the Philippines, suffer the knock-on effect from what is being burned in places like Poland. Here, at this COP19 it is absolutely necessary to make a plan to help those who are victimized by our addiction to fossil fuels,” added Kaiser.
A second banner asked ‘Who rules Poland? Coal industry or the people?’ in reference to a poll published on November 12 by the Public Opinion Research Center (CBOS) [1] showing that 89% of Polish citizens are in favor of increasing renewable energy production in Poland, while their government ignores them. [2]
Maciej Muskat, Director of Greenpeace Poland said:
“Politicians are elected to stand up for the will of the people, not for the financial interests of an aging, dirty coal industry. Prime Minister Tusk must listen to the people and initiate a shift towards renewable energies.”
Currently representatives of 194 nations are gathered in Warsaw to find ways to address climate change. The recent IPCC report has been very clear in what needs to be done to do so: most fossil fuels must be left in the ground and carbon emissions must be phased out by mid century. The first week of the climate negotiations was overshadowed by a collapse of mitigation ambition by Japan and Australia. [3]
The World Coal Summit is hosted at a moment when climate defenders in many countries show their courage against new investments into coal fired power plants, oil drilling and oil pipelines while governments fail to stand up the fossil fuel industry.
“It is tragically offensive that the bosses of the climate-killing coal-industry are being warmly welcomed by the Polish government. Meanwhile the Arctic 30 are still sitting in cold Russian prison cells for their courage to protest peacefully to save the Arctic,” finished Kaiser.
“All countries must work now for an agreement to limit catastrophic impacts of climate change, and Arab Countries must work in unity to push for global commitments to protect our future and the future of our children. They should`t shelve climate protection until 2015.” Said Safa’ Al Jayoussi, Climate & Energy Campaigner in Arab Countries.
