The Fundraising Director at Greenpeace Mediterranean is no ordinary Fundraising Director. He/she will help design campaigns to engage millions of people in the work we do, to build lifelong relationships with them, gain their commitment to support our work financially and to take them on a journey that activates them to campaign with us for the better future and protected planet we all deserve.

We have a sophisticated acquisition programme (including the largest monthly donor acquisition programme in Turkey), an in-house face to face programme filled with passionate people and an international reputation for delivering highly effective public engagement campaigns that we follow up with best practice telefundraising.

We’ve been through a period of tremendous growth in the last few years and have ambitions for much further growth whilst strategically we now turn our focus to building the best possible relationships we can with supporters, deepening their commitment to our cause and bringing our supporters to be members of our team not simply “donors”. The person we are looking for will have:

  • At least 5 years of experience at a senior level of fundraising including management of a large and diverse number of fundraising programmes focused on regular giving.
  • Vision and passion to take our programme to the next level.

  • Highly developed skills in managing budgets, forecasting, reporting and data driven decision-making.

Fundraising Director Job Description

Purpose of the Job

Greenpeace is a global, independent environmental campaigning organization. In order to maintain our independence we do not accept donations from government or business, we are entirely funded by the generous donations of our individual supporters. Moreover our power as an organisation comes from the fact that when we advocate for the well being of the environment we do so with the support of hundreds of thousands of supporters across the region ensuring that decision makers are compelled to hear what we have to say.

The Fundraising Director has the crucial job of inspiring and attracting individuals to engage with the organisation and building a lifelong relationship with those supporters securing the financial resources we need, whilst activating those supporters to work with us to win crucial campaigns.

It is a full-time position responsible for the planning, management, resourcing, co-ordination and review of all fundraising programmes, including fundraising and marketing strategies, the human resources of the department and budget management for the department’s expenditure and income; the integration and collaboration with other functions internally, and building external relationships and networks to further our cause.

 

It is a key senior management position within Greenpeace Mediterranean and is part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) reporting directly to the Executive Director. As part of the SMT the Fundraising Director will contribute to organizational leadership, vision, strategy & management.

Responsibilities:

Programme Development & Strategy

  • Providing a clear strategic direction by overseeing the development of fundraising plans that will achieve ambitious long-term financial growth for the organization.
  • Provide leadership to the Fundraising team in executing the implementation of annual and multi-year Fundraising strategies and plans for all aspects of GP Mediterranean program, including short- and long-term measurable goals and the performance and the income forecasting that must accompany them.

 

Supporter Acquisition

  • Oversee the effective management of the supporter acquisition programme ensuring that the programme is diverse and sustainable and that it is delivering both the quantity and quality of new donors that the organization needs to meet its fundraising and campaigning goals whilst doing so in the most cost effective manner possible.
  • Work cross-functionally with the other departments to ensure that our acquisition strategy is aligned with our engagement goals and is therefore assisting us to engage audiences in Greenpeace’s work, reaching the diversity of the various locals in the eastern Mediterranean who care about our environment and health reach and who will take action alongside us.
  • Oversee the constant development, testing and implementation of new and creative fundraising to attract new donors.

Supporter Retention and Development

  • Oversee the effective management of the supporter retention and loyalty programme ensuring that we are creating inspiring best practice supporter journeys and maintaining best practice systems and processes to reduce supporter attrition to a minimum.
  • Ensure that the supporter journeys are developed cross functionally with the other supporter facing teams so that we are talking to supporters with a coherent voice and optimizing supporter engagement.
  • Ensure we are maximising opportunities to increase the value of supporters gifts through best practice delivery of upgrade programmes, middle and major donor programmes and through driving the optimum average gift at acquisition.

Data Management, Reporting & Analysis

  • Oversee effective data management, ensuring that platforms and processes are optimized for effective engagement, outstanding supporter care and for critical analysis and reporting.
  • Ensure that sufficient and strategic analysis is occurring that enables us to have data driven decision-making and to constantly test and improve our programmes.
  • Supervise all aspects of the revenue and expenditure of the fundraising budgets, including development, implementation, tracking, evaluation, adjustments, and regular reporting to staff, the senior management team and the boards of directors.
  • Ensuring clear, accurate, and consistent reporting and communication between the Finance and fundraising departments.
  • Regularly monitor and review all vendors providing services to Greenpeace Mediterranean fundraising program against agreed budgets and performance criteria.
  • Provide inspiring leadership and effective management to the Fundraising team
  • Build, support and manage departmental staff, encouraging innovation and responsibility.
  • Set and review regular departmental and staff objectives through the Evaluation and Learning Cycle process. Provide the training and support needed to meet these objectives to all office staff.
  • Communicate key departmental and organisational issues and decisions within the department.

Staff development

Organisational Integration

  • Work closely with the Program Department (including campaign, media and Digital) in the development, implementation, and evaluation of GP Mediterranean integrated public campaigning strategies.
  • Ensure the integration of fundraising programs and strategies across the organization, particularly working closely with the mobilization (online and offline) team on multichannel donor acquisition, cultivation and retention and supports journey.
  • Continually strengthening an understanding within the organization about fundraising as a form of activism, communication, and education, and working with the SMT, fundraising team, and board of directors, to cultivate a culture of philanthropy in the organization.
  • As a member of a Greenpeace Senior Management Team, maintain a high commitment to Greenpeace values and meeting organisational goals.
  • Through the SMT, contribute to the development and effectiveness of GP Med. This includes: developing and implementing organisational strategies, policies and plans; addressing issues; and supporting and communicating decisions taken by the other Directors and the Executive Director.
  • Maintain productive and effective working relationship with Greenpeace International and with the other offices of Greenpeace.
    • Participating in international fundraising program development, including providing training and support.
    • Perform other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Executive Director.

Experience and Qualifications:

In addition to 5-plus years fundraising experience at a senior level, strong candidates will have the following experiences and qualifications:

  • Entrepreneurship, including a proven ability to develop and execute new fundraising models.
  • Extensive experience in leadership positions for monthly donor, and public engagement programs.
  • Experience with personally cultivating and soliciting high-value supporters and directly engaging board members with fundraising efforts is a plus.
  • Ability to serve as a key member of Senior Management Team working on organizational strategy and planning.
  • Strong management skill set and the ability to motivate, inspire, and develop a diverse staff, including team members working around the world.
  • Experience implementing and managing the operational infrastructure required for a successful development program, including database systems and vendor and finance management.
  • Ability to work closely across departments and teams to develop and execute communications, marketing, or public relations strategies to support resource development.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience;
