Responsible to          : Communications Unit Head

Location                      : Cairo,  Amman or Beyrut.

Geographical area of responsibility     :MENA, with staff in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and  Palestinian occupied territories

Develop and implement the Arab Countries Program’s communications strategy in accordance with the agreed campaign and organizational program.

Raise the profile and visibility of Greenpeace Mediterranean (GPMed) and its campaigns in the region, including influencing and persuading key decision makers and reaching key external audiences.

Build the Greenpeace brand, corporate identity and reputation management regionally

Specific areas of responsibilities

Campaign communication strategies

–       Design and implement innovative communications strategies and plans aligned with campaign and organisational strategies.

–       Identify target audiences and their specific channels for communications to win campaigns.

–       Participation in the development of the campaign strategies.

–       Implement on-going evaluation of campaign messages and materials.

Media communications

–       Work with campaign team members and Communications Unit Head to develop and implement targeted campaign communications for print and broadcast media.

–       Maintain and develop relationships with media representatives, external agencies and assist campaigners to develop and maintain contact with key journalists.

–       Advise on editorial trends, media attacks and anti-environmental public relations strategies.

–       Ensure media systems, including up-to-date contacts database, regular mailings to feature journalists, lists of freelance photographers and camera operators, and qualitative media monitoring logs, are maintained by the organization.

–       Maintain an overview of Greenpeace actions and communications taking place globally.

–       Identify opportunities for media promotion within Arab countries.

–       Manage photographers and videographers contracted for activities

Editorial functions

–       Design story telling and identify relevant audiences

–       Write and disseminate media communication materials, including press releases, advisories, background briefings, reports, web notices, question and answer briefings, press packs etc.

–       Write (where appropriate), edit and proof-read content for campaign and organization-wide communications, such as fact-sheets, standard responses for information requests, fundraising appeals etc, so as to ensure a coherent and high standard of editorial content and style is maintained in all Greenpeace’s external materials and publications.

–       Standardize print, design and production processes for Greenpeace communications, in cooperation with fundraising staff, including sourcing/producing and implementing an in-house style-guide.

Team work and Project Management

–       Work and communicate continuously, openly and cooperatively with other team members -actions, campaigns, new media and fundraisers- to ensure that the whole team delivers the objectives of the project

–       Coordinate and liaise with the Communications Unit Head on external and Internal communications

–       Produce regular internal reports, evaluating performance of GP Med’s communications output against communications and campaign’s objectives –daily activity report, monthly media report, any other report that may be asked by CHU

–       Respond to challenges, explore ideas, and take initiatives in all aspects of team work

–       Adapt roles within team as appropriate, including playing supportive roles, share skills, and assist the development of other members of the team

Internal communications

–       Implement an in-house Greenpeace Communications Style Guide that should synergise regionally.

–       Coordinate Greenpeace copyright and library obligations when necessary.

–       Ensure effective internal communication and information systems are in place so that the campaign department provides information that people can receive and access easily.

–       In conjunction with fundraising and administration staff, establish streamlined systems for responding to information requests by letter, fax, phone and e-mail.

Audio-visual materials

–       Ensure professional management of the Greenpeace audio-visual collection.

–       Manage access to organisation-wide collection of audio-visual equipment (hardware and software) and resources (videos, slides, photos).

–       Manage the distribution of images and footage, and process invoices and payments for all audio-visual materials accordingly.

–       Oversee and liaise with external contractors, write briefs, and conduct photo searches, so as to ensure correct audio-visual procedures are followed.

–       Ensure accurate database recording of acquisitions, loans, image transfers etc.

–       Other communications functions as delegated by the Communications Unit Head.

 

Desired Skills & Experience

Experience:

  • 5 years + relevant experience
  •  Relevant education in the field: BA (Bachelor Degree) in Communications / Political Science/Journalism
  • Project Management experience
