How does Greenpeace use my donation?

Greenpeace is an independent campaigning organisation, which uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems, and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future. All funds collected are managed by Greenpeace Southeast Asia, which encompasses Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.

We ensure that every donation is allocated as per our project priorities. Expenditures follow strict internal policies, regulations, and procedures, and are included in annual budgets that are reviewed and approved by Greenpeace Southeast Asia’s Regional Board of Directors.

We are committed to providing exceptional service for our supporters in a timely manner. Hence, we appreciate advance notice to ensure the quality of our communications with you will be maintained at its best!

Greenpeace Malaysia developed a donation cancellation policy as part of our commitment to honouring and respecting the termination of financial contributions towards the organisation.

In the event of a cancellation of an ongoing donation to Greenpeace Malaysia, we appreciate that donors:
– Submit a cancellation request via email or phone call.
– Furnish us with adequate information on your donation details
– Allow 5 working days to process the cancellation request

We are contactable via email at [email protected] or call us at +603 2276 2022 or +603 27123237. Our Supporter Care Officer is happy to help you with your concerns/requests.

We encourage you to write to us before your next deduction to avoid any deduction (for the upcoming month) within the 5 working days of processing your request to cancel.

What to expect?
While we are happy to serve you, losing you isn’t our favourite part. If you find the current donation amount a little too high, our Supporter Care team may suggest you settle for a lower amount. Please feel free to let us know if you are comfortable with a specific donation amount that would aid our current and upcoming campaigns.

Thank you for all your support!

What is Greenpeace Malaysia’s donation refund policy?

Greenpeace Malaysia developed a donation refund policy as part of our commitment to honouring and respecting the financial contributions that people make to us. We recognise the importance of donations and want to ensure we establish appropriate principles of transparency and fairness with regard to the management of refunds.

Greenpeace Malaysia, however, recognises that it is possible to make an error when making an online donation or for donors who signed up with our face-to-face ambassadors. It can also occur that an error is made by our payment gateway.

Greenpeace Malaysia expects anyone wishing to donate to consider their decision carefully and check donation amounts during transactions. This includes all donation methods and channels through which donors are being approached.

Under this policy, Greenpeace Malaysia will endeavour to refund donations per the following.
Rules:
– If an error is made when making a donation or if the donor changes their mind, we will honour all requests for refunds made in writing within 15 (fifteen) days of the date the donation was made.

– The written refund request should include the details of the initial transaction including the date, donation amount, donor’s name, IC number, and the nature of the error.

– All written requests for refunds can be sent by email to [email protected] or mailed to Level 5-3A, Menara Sentral Vista, 150, Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, 50470.

– We will fully examine all requests for refund and endeavour to ensure that genuine errors are rectified. However, after 15 days, Greenpeace Malaysia is not obligated to give refunds, and the decision will be at the organisation’s discretion.
– Refunds will be returned using the original payment method—for example, if a donation has been made by credit card, Greenpeace Malaysia will credit the refund to that same credit card.

– If Greenpeace Malaysia or our financial institution(s) makes an error, Greenpeace Malaysia will refund the full amount once notified of the error in writing.

All Greenpeace Malaysia employees and fundraisers responsible for receiving and processing donations shall:
– Respect and value all those who donate to Greenpeace Malaysia.
– Ensure donation processes are secure and transparent.
– Build trusting relationships with regular donors and partners.
– Respond proactively to any issues arising about donation cancellations or refunds.
– Communicate respectfully and professionally with those requesting a cancellation or refund and raise any issues or concerns with Greenpeace Malaysia management regarding donation cancellation/refunds.

What are our fundraising principles?

At Greenpeace, we are honoured to be funded almost entirely by donations from passionate individuals worldwide and grants from like-minded private foundations. Our independence is important for effective campaigning, so we do not accept funding from governments, corporations, political parties, or intergovernmental organisations. We screen large private donations to ensure they do not compromise our independence or campaign priorities. If a donation poses such risks, we will refuse or return it.

Donations support our activists and campaigns, making change possible. We respect supporters’ contributions, aiming for maximum impact, and balance costs with results. We detail our fundraising costs in our annual accounts, adhering to internal principles and professional codes of conduct.

If a supporter requests their donation be used for a specific purpose, we try to honour it. For specific projects, we track and report donations using recognised accounting methods.

Face-to-Face Fundraising

Our dedicated fundraisers are here to provide more info to help you understand our work and how you can help.

Why does Greenpeace Malaysia do face-to-face fundraising?

Raising funds through activities such as street collections, door-to-door campaigns, and events at places like malls is a financially efficient method to garner more support and enthusiasm from the community for our cause. This is crucial for sustaining and expanding our conservation efforts. Nevertheless, we continually assess the efficiency of our fundraising endeavours, and if they cease to be cost-effective, we will either modify or halt the initiative.

When I sign up for support via a fundraiser, will my donations go directly to Greenpeace Malaysia’s account?

Yes, your donations will be directly debited into Greenpeace Malaysia’s account. The payments are completely secured. No other transactions will be taken with regard to your account.

What are the times that the fundraisers are allowed to approach me?

Our fundraisers are engaged to represent us from 9am to 9pm, Monday through Saturday, and from 10am to 9pm on Sundays. If you encounter fundraisers contacting you outside of these hours, please inform our Supporter Care Team at +603 2712 3237. They are available Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm.

How will I know if a legitimate fundraiser of Greenpeace Malaysia is approaching me?

Fundraisers representing Greenpeace Malaysia will be attired in uniforms – a T-shirt which has the Greenpeace logo on it.

They will also carry identification cards displaying their name, photo, and details of the fundraising organisation they’re affiliated with. If there are doubts regarding the legitimacy of a fundraiser, individuals are encouraged to request contacting the fundraising organization directly or reach out to Greenpeace Malaysia’s Supporter Care Team at +603 2712 3237 (available Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm.

It’s important to note that our fundraisers will not request or accept cash donations. Instead, they will seek support through recurring card payments or direct debit. Should a fundraiser request cash, individuals are advised to decline and promptly report the incident by calling +603 2712 3237, as this would not be an authentic Greenpeace Malaysia fundraiser.

Are my information and details provided to the fundraiser secure?

Yes! Your personal information to our fundraisers is kept secure and handled confidentially. Fundraisers will gather your information using digital devices like iPads.
All personal information collected by Greenpeace MY is strictly confidential and adheres to the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA 2010) and is used for donation and donor communication purposes e.g. newsletters, invitations, campaign updates, newsletters, annual reports, etc
