Volunteering with Greenpeace Malaysia

Within Greenpeace’s volunteer community we have different teams who work with specific areas to make an even greater impact. Everyone is welcome to join these teams; no previous background knowledge or expertise is required. The team members build skills and expertise together through activities, skillshares and training.

What do Greenpeace Malaysia volunteers do?

Greenpeace volunteers are involved in many different types of activities: from sharing about our campaigns to creating beautiful ‘artivism’ installations to protesting in solidarity and even joining creative non-violent direct actions. There are many ways to volunteer; generally or for the specific campaign(s) you are passionate about.

Who can volunteer with Greenpeace Malaysia? Can I apply?

Yes! Anyone and everyone can apply to become a Greenpeace Malaysia volunteer. Greenpeace is about ordinary people doing extraordinary things to campaign for a greener and fairer future for us all. However, keep in mind that you need to be:

1. Aligned with Greenpeace’s core values (link to ‘Who We Are’ page)
2. Living in Malaysia
3. Able to commit. You’ll need to make a sincere commitment to the time and effort needed to be a volunteer.
4. Are of legal age or have your parent/guardian permission, although some volunteer activities have minimum age requirements.

Even if you meet all the stipulated general requirements, we reserve the right to individually assess your participation on an activity-per-activity basis, on certain criteria, including but not limited to: health, fitness level, citizenship, visa status, age, etc.

Are there age restrictions for volunteers?

Volunteers must be of legal age, 18 years old, or have permission from a parent or guardian. Some volunteer activities may have specific minimum age requirements.

What are some examples of things volunteers do?

Greenpeace volunteers are involved in many different types of activities: from research to organising demonstrations; from public speaking about Greenpeace campaigns to building beautiful ‘artivism’ installations or kayaking or climbing in a non-violent direct action. There are many opportunities to volunteer in a way and for the campaign you are most passionate about.

How can I become a volunteer?

You can become a volunteer by filling out the volunteer application form on our website. After submitting the form, you will be contacted by our public engagement and action campaigner for an orientation session.

Do I need any special skills to volunteer?

No special skills are required to volunteer. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds and skill levels. We provide training and support for our volunteers.

Will I receive training?

Yes, all volunteers receive training and orientation. The training covers Greenpeace’s mission, values, and the specific tasks you will be involved in. Ongoing support and additional training are provided as needed.

Does it cost anything to be a volunteer with Greenpeace?

No, there’s no cost for volunteering with us. All training programs are free and Greenpeace covers all expenses for volunteers during training and activities, such as travel, food and accommodation.

What else do I need to know as a Greenpeace Malaysia volunteer?

All Greenpeace Malaysia volunteers must read, understand, implement, and adhere to the Greenpeace Malaysia Code of Conduct, which outlines expected behaviors, responsibilities, and the commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
