Greenpeace Japan (Shinjuku, Tokyo) has released the following statement in response to the shooting of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe while he was making a roadside speech in the city of Nara.

“We are appalled that such an act against free speech and political activity was committed during an election period, which is a fundamental cornerstone of democracy. Greenpeace opposes any form of violence, under any circumstances. We sincerely wish for the safety of Mr Abe and his swift recovery.”
