On 19 July 2017, the case against Mauro Fernandez was concluded by Peruvian authorities for his role as spokesperson on December 2014 for an activity where Greenpeace activists placed a banner highlighting the threat of climate change by the hummingbird Nazca Lines.

Kumi Naidoo, Greenpeace International Executive Director at the time, accepted responsibility for the action, clarified Mauro’s role as spokesperson – not organizer, as was then reported by different media outlets –  and issued a full apology to the Peruvian people and government.

Following the activity, Mauro cooperated with the Peruvian authorities and fulfilled all of his obligations. His legal case is closed and he is free of any charge. He has no criminal record.
