The COVID-19 pandemic is showing how unequal societies go hand-in-hand with human suffering, fragile economies and delicate democracies.

We are living more than a public health crisis; it is a full economic, social and political crisis. Like the climate crisis, as well as the many others we face, the COVID-19 pandemic affects everyone but hits some harder than others. It has shone a very bright light on the inequalities in our societies.

We are diverse civil society organisations representing human rights, civil liberties, development, environment, anti-poverty, anti-racism and other sectors, and trade unions, with a shared vision of the future. We call on the European institutions to seize this moment to work towards the fundamental changes in our society, economy and governance needed to protect us all and ensure the EU becomes resilient. We enclose a statement and our shared demands on how to start that much needed change.

We are committed to working towards a shared vision of the future of Europe, one that is based on a socially just, feminist, sustainable, democratic and inclusive society. We believe the Commission must respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in ways that put us on a path to achieve that vision.
