COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

The communications officer is a skilled writer and creative communicator who is inspired and committed to engaging people and organisations into a Greenpeace’s campaign. A broad set of skills is required for this contract with a focus on compelling, engaging writing across a broad range of media, innovative strategy development and modern design.

Major functions / responsibilities 

  • Develop and help implement a communication strategy for the campaign, including key influencer strategy
  • Produce relevant website content, manage external content
  • Draft press releases, media briefings and Q&As, and effectively manage output
  • Write compelling, creative content for campaign materials
  • Draft social media content, oversee and quick react to comments on all channels (FB, IG, YT, TW)
  • Identify and champion innovative, creative and new communications opportunities for the campaign
  • Ensure the content reflects the brand, values and tone of the organisation, is aligned with communication strategies and reaches the target audiences.
  • Act as primary point of contact for media requests regarding the campaign
  • Proactively develop relationships with external communication specialists, with an emphasis on the media
  • Cooperate with external partners (eg. agencies, celebrities, artists) 
  • Organize and moderate press conferences and other media events 
  • Media database management and press-cut mapping and development
  • Gather and analyze social media data, and tailor strategy and tactics based on this analysis, in cooperation with Digital Coordinator 
  • Develop and manage supporter communication for the campaign
  • Oversee the production and distribution of video and photo content. Provide clear briefs to and manage photographers, videographers, other contractors and volunteers as required
  • Public speaker function as required

Competency profile

  • Public relations expertise, knowledge of media landscape, and understanding of media advocacy needs 
  • Croatian and English language proficiency
  • Basic knowledge of the NGO sector 
  • Ability to assess risk and potential implications 
  • Time management skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Experience in environmental organisations and/or civil society is an asset 
  • Graphic design and project management experience are assets
