Greenpeace Austria brought the raging fires in the Amazon into the heart of Vienna. Most of these fires are caused by illegal slash-and-burn agriculture, among other things for cattle grazing, and backed by the dismantling of environmental protections by President Jair Bolsonaro’s government and the international markets’ demand for meat, animal feed, minerals, and timber. Greenpeace demands a stop of the trade pact and the adoption of a new and strong EU forest law to ensure that nothing sold in Europe is linked to forest destruction.
