Greenpeace Canada projects on iconic Niagara falls ahead of federal elections: Don’t Trump Canada

NIAGARA FALLS – Greenpeace Canada’s activists projected powerful messages on the world famous Niagara Falls this evening: “Don’t Trump Canada”, “Elbows up” and “Time to RESIST”. Days before Canadians will vote to elect their next Prime Minister, Greenpeace Canada is calling out politicians like Trump and Poilievre for spreading fear and division, while polluting industries like oil & gas seek to take advantage of a crisis they helped create. Greenpeace Canada is asking Poilievre and all political parties to protect people and the environment, not polluters and billionaires.

“The same Big Oil and billionaires behind Trump are supporting politicians like Pierre Poilievre to push through a Trump-style agenda here in Canada: eliminate hard-won environmental protections, tax breaks for the rich and attacks on the most vulnerable in our society. We can’t and won’t let them,” said Keith Stewart, Senior Energy Strategist at Greenpeace Canada.

Pierre Poilievre presents himself as a champion of the working class, railing against the elite and fuelling public anger over inequality and rising costs, but Greenpeace Canada has been pointing out his double-speak, calling him out for protecting polluters and betraying people [1] [2]. Greenpeace Canada is asking Poilievre and all political parties to protect people and the environment, not polluters and billionaires, by protecting environmental regulations, social programs, and supporting measures that put more money in people’s wallets, and not billionaire’s [3] [4].

“This is our moment to build a better Canada. Together, we have the power to protect our rights and environment. This starts by holding accountable politicians supporting polluters and billionaires, and demanding a more fair, liveable and affordable future for all, ” added Stewart.

This activity was also a solidarity statement in support of Greenpeace USA, who has been found liable for more than US$660 million in the Energy Transfer SLAPP trial a couple of weeks ago [5], a very concerning example of Trump-style politics and Big Oil bullies attempts around the world to silence free speech and peaceful protest, reminding us why we need to stand against Maple MAGA in Canada.
