October 2nd, 2018 (MONTRÉAL) – On Tuesday October 9th, 2018, Greenpeace Canada will be revealing the results of the Plastic Polluters Brand Audits conducted three weeks prior on World Clean Up Day. The results will include the top five companies contributing to branded plastic litter, that was collected across five different cleanup-audit locations in Canada.

The Canadian audit events were part of over 200 audits, taking place on 6 continents, led by Greenpeace and other organizations in the global Break Free From Plastic movement.  Previously identified plastic polluting multinationals are also recent signatories of the G7 Plastics Charter.

Plastic Polluters Brand Audits take beach cleanups one step further by identifying and categorizing plastic trash by manufacturer, brand and type, connecting plastic producing companies back to pollution in green spaces, along waterways and in our oceans.

The Canadian results will coincide with the release of the cumulative global results.

This is the first time Canadian data will be revealed.

The results will be revealed on October 9th, 2018.

Greenpeace Canada, Head of Oceans & Plastics campaign, Sarah King will be available to comment.

Some of the collected branded trash will be used to build an art installation to be unveiled  later this month.

The time and date of the public event will be shared in advance of the event.
