Toronto – In response to the Supreme Court ruling Federal Carbon Tax constitutional, Priyanka Vittal, Legal Counsel, at Greenpeace Canada said:
“This is a tremendously important decision for our national and global fight against climate change, paving the way for the federal government to continue to introduce strong legislation that supports climate solutions. It is now clear that provincial governments can accelerate, but not impede, federal action to deal with the climate crisis.”
Discussion
Any steps towards taking better care of our planet are wonderful but I don't see this tax accomplishing that at all. It will simply punish people who already have a hard time making ends meet. Prices of goods and transportation will go up, and pensions and wages will not. Myself (aged 66), I don't have enough to live on and must continue working despite painful arthritis. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't work from home. Of course, I do need to go out occasionally and there's no way I can take the bus. It's just an additional hardship for those of us who already have financial and / or physical challenges.
