MONTREAL- In response to the announcement of the Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) appointment of Mayor Valérie Plante as the ICLEI’s Global Ambassador for Local Biodiversity, Greenpeace Canada Nature and Food Campaigner, Marie-Josée Beliveau said:

“Having Mayor Valérie Plante as the ICLEI’s Global Ambassador for Local Biodiversity is certainly good news. We hope it will put conservation and biodiversity at the heart of development decisions. Montreal has great potential to inspire other cities nationally and internationally to act in the face of the current climate crisis. Planting trees, and taking the necessary measures to ensure that food systems in cities support biodiversity, social justice, and climate resilience, are all parts of solutions to protect nature and urban areas.”
