The March for Nature on 8 June, the Luxon government’s war on nature and the Fast Track Bill dominated the first in a series of regular Greenpeace livestreams.

Asked about why it was necessary to take part in the march, Russel Norman, Greenpeace Aotearoa executive director said: “Someone’s got to stand up and speak for nature and if we don’t do it then we’re toast.

“This is a critical march and we’ve got to be in it for the long haul. If the government doesn’t back down, then we’re not going to back down either.”

Special guest Morgan Donoghue of Ours Not Mines said the march would attract a wide cross-section of people who care about what the government is doing to the environment.

“People power is real – it will have a massive effect.

“To prove that you care, you have to turn up.”
