Mads Flarup Christensen is the Interim Executive Director of Greenpeace International, a position he also held in 2015-2016. Inspired by Greenpeace’s ability to catalyse change and frustrated by the lack of political will to tackle environmental problems, Mads joined the organisation as a youth volunteer in 1992. He has since worked across the global network, including 15 years as the Executive Director of Greenpeace Nordic and leading the mission to free staff and volunteers arrested in Russia for peacefully protesting, known as the Arctic 30. He has travelled through the Amazon and Greenland with Indigenous communities, and supported youth climate leaders. Mads is on the board of GAME, a Danish NGO focussed on social change, youth sports and culture, and served on the Broen til Fremtiden Board, a Just and Green Transition alliance with unions and social movements in Denmark. Mads is a keen climber and skier. Follow Mads on LinkedIn and on Twitter.
