Kinshasa-28 May 2021,  As the world watches in shock at these eruptions which have impacted so many lives in Goma, we express our deepest sadness, sympathies and wishes for strength and courage to those who have lost friends and family in this disaster.

The number one priority of the current Congolese government and its international partners should be to urgently provide direct and unequivocal assistance to the bereaved and scattered families who have lost loved ones and homes. The government and international partners must also move to prevent the already existing turmoil from escalating after the announcement of a possible second eruption.

Greenpeace Africa expresses its solidarity and compassion to the population of Goma and the surrounding areas and calls on everyone to allow the authorities to help, and help each other when and where they can.
