Title: Digital Mobilisation Officer

Location: One of Greenpeace Africa Operational Office ( South Africa, Cameroon, Senegal, Kenya) is preferred but flexible to other locations within Africa, as GPAF implements a hybrid work location model with work-from-home being the main base of our work location
Note: Candidates with fluency in English and French (as well as other regional languages) will be highly considered
Purpose of the Role
The Digital Mobilisation Officer is a digital engagement and mobilisation leader. They will also be tasked with overseeing digital and optimizing how we use digital to mobilize mass audiences, specifically with tools like the open campaign platform VUMA.EARTH where people from across Africa are empowered to start online petitions on environmental topics they care about and secure backing for their activism.The Digital Mobilisation Officer will work closely with movement building, digital and comms colleagues and across digital platforms like HubSpot, WordPress and on social media to make positive change and win Greenpeace Africa campaigns. The Digital Mobilisation Officer will also partner with stakeholders, supporting partnerships and advocacy among people in Africa, using VUMA and other digital tools to advance activism and campaigning.
Main duties
Leverage GPAF tools and channels to amplify digital activism in Africa
- Mass email expertise and detailed supporter journeys to spotlight and grow activism in Africa
- Expert use of social media and platform specific approach to amplify movements and campaigns
- Expert content creation and ability to work with freelancers and creatives to achieve high reach and impressions on social media
- News media and social listening to identify opportunities for campaigning
- Initiating a number of co-created campaigns that have high visibility and influence in the external world
Expanding GPAF’s strategic and tactical digital mobilisation offer to activists across Africa
- Investigate and bring in new digital tools to offer the growing community of digital activists in Africa
- Coach digital activists in delivering of campaigns
- Partner with ControlShift (product owner) and the wider GP community to further explore the platform’s capabilities
- Coordinate and action necessary dev updates with te in-house or external developers for VUMA and other platforms
Monitoring, Learning and Reporting
- Integration of data and producing reports
- Prompt production of reports
- Communication, learning and knowledge sharing of insights with a wider Programme team at GPAF
Testing, analytics and data
- Contribute to maintaining a strong testing culture, regularly testing your ideas across digital channels, using data to inform your decisions and strengthen our campaigning
- Optimize our digital products’ performance through identifying areas for development and running tests to assess your hypothesis
- Monitor performance of campaign output, regularly evaluating and iterating your approach in line with the data, learning as you go
Team work
- Contribute to a positive team culture by building strong working relationships within the team as well as with colleagues from teams across the organisation, including programme, fundraising, mobs (volunteer management)
- Respond to challenges, explore new ideas and take initiative in all aspects of teamwork
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience delivering digital plans that engage relevant audiences to take action and create impact, meeting campaign or project objectives. This experience could have been gained in a wide range of areas, but ideally in either campaigning, communications or volunteer organizing
- Fluency in English and French (as well as other regional languages)
- Demonstrable experience of delivering end-to-end digital campaigns, preferably with evidence of achieving impact and engagement in this space
- Excellent understanding of different social media platforms and proven ability to produce platform-appropriate content that cuts through
- Experience of designing and delivering a range of digital tactics to achieve change
- Commitment to our organisational strategy and reaching a range of audiences – grounding African consciousness in our digital strategies and outputs and actively looking for opportunities to be pan-African in our approach to digital campaigning
- Experience networking and community building across a range of stakeholders
- Experience motivating people to take action and deepen their activism or participation in progressive causes
- Demonstrable experience of creating and delivering compelling content for a range of purposes including social media, blogs, video scripts and mass email to achieve campaign impact and engagement
- Experience of using technology in innovative and creative ways as part of a communications or campaign strategy.
- Experience of identifying and delivering tests of ideas and approaches across digital channels, tools and social media, using data to inform decisions
- A more advanced understanding of coding languages such as HTML or CSS along with a desire to learn more.
- Experience building and sending mass emails and producing detailed supporter journeys
- Experience of using CRMs and CMSs, such as WordPress, Engaging Networks, HubSpot or Action Network, would be an advantage
- Experience in managing or contributing to digital communications during live events is also an advantage.
