Title: Direct Dialogue Canvasser (DDC)

Purpose of the Role 

To recruit new regular donors to Greenpeace in South Africa. The role also seeks to communicate Greenpeace Africa campaigns to the general public as a secondary aim.

Main duties 

Deliverables

  • Achieving fundraising targets individually by recruiting two or more new
  • Aligning fundraising targets in conjunction with the existing strategy. Targets that are set to address key management targets: 10 validated weekly sign-ups, age (30+), and an average gift (R300+).
  • Providing regular feedback on set daily and/or weekly objectives to the Team Leader. Objectives consisting of key performance indicators (sign-ups per hour, average gift) as well as qualitative targets (focusing on stopping certain groups of people, improving the script, objections handling etc).

Coordination and Communication

  • Assist with ensuring that fellow team members’ numbers and performance standards are sufficient to meet fundraising targets.
  • Assist with the training of new team members with support of the Team Leader.
  • Assist with keeping fellow team members motivated and energised to perform at their best.
  • Debrief with the team and Team Leader regularly to address areas of concern.
  • Maintain daily communication with team members to ensure everyone is on the same page.
  • Ensure Greenpeace standards and job expectations are met.
  • Ensure effective use of recruiting turfs and provide regular feedback on any arising challenges.
  • Ensure that Greenpeace campaign knowledge is up to date, especially on local issues.
  • Remain up to date about the aims and directions of the DDC program.

Administration

  • Completing daily/weekly performance forms to be submitted to the Team Leader upon request.
  • Fill in timesheets accurately on a daily basis for submission to the Team Leader at the end of every shift.

Skills and requirements

  • Ability to meet fundraising targets and work with deadlines.
  • Face-to-face fundraising/sales experience.
  • Experience working in teams and taking leadership roles.
  • Excellent oral communication skills that must be inspiring and persuasive.
  • Outgoing personality with a positive attitude.
  • Self-confidence and conviction – the ability to take leadership roles in difficult situations without becoming disparaged.
  • Ability to work unsupervised – professionalism, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Ability to commit to continuously changing shifts.

Requirements

  • Must have completed Grade 12.
