It has come to my realisation that being an environmentalist and fighting for climate justice is not exactly what someone wishes to be. We become what we are because we see the truth behind all of the green washing, we see behind the scenes of how corporations and government officials manage to get away with destroying our home planet for their own benefit and we are victims of the climate crisis caused by so and so. Which forces us to take action and speak up about our situation and demand Climate Justice.

We w̶a̶n̶t̶ need to live our right to a safe and healthy environment and protect our beloved natural earth.

At this Climate Justice Camp, held in Tunisia with hundreds of like-minded individuals from all over the world,  I witnessed the magic of the togetherness everyone had when it came to protecting the environment. From the protests, to the discussions and all the emotions shared. It was truly so beautiful to experience. All those I interacted with are hardworking, inspiring, intelligent and super dope individuals.

Not only are they remarkable, many are also victims of climate change. I had the opportunity to listen to their hardships in person along with learning from their experiences and actions they brought forward to help overcome their tragedies. Some of these individuals lost their basic necessities that we take for granted such as; having unlimited access to water everyday, a right to an education and not living in fear of losing your life, or worse, your loved ones every time there is a storm that breaks.

I am proud of each individual for taking the step and fighting for what they deserve, they are all young and energetic humanitarians who are inspiring. Although, they should not have to deal with this, this is not their fault and this is not their life. They deserve more.

This camp showed me what people’s power looks like and also gave me the hope of humanity by proving to me that it exists.

I remember describing this to someone recently, it was like being in heaven on Earth, because it was as if someone put most of the cool, awesome and outright brilliant people together (probably added me for some contrast)  and made us interact.

I am grateful for this blissful experience that I could never have imagined myself in. I am honoured to be a part of this “crazy idea” that the organisers came up with and achieved within a couple of months.

Thank you Greenpeace Africa for providing me with this opportunity and for including me in this incredible venture. This occasion and gesture will forever be in a special place in my heart.
